If you are dealing with hearing loss in Norwalk, CT, you need to get help. You can count on Dr. Andrew Parker of Parker Hearing Center to offer you the best options for your particular type of hearing loss. Don't wait, hearing can contribute to a diminished quality of life. You need to be able to hear, to interact with others.

When any part of the hearing mechanism is not functioning as it was designed to, it can cause hearing loss. The ear consists of the outer ear, the middle ear, the inner ear, the auditory nerve, and the auditory system, which includes everything and is the pathway from sound to the brain.

There are four types of hearing loss:

  • Conductive hearing Loss
  • Sensorineural hearing loss
  • Mixed hearing loss
  • Auditory neuropathy spectrum disorder

Hearing loss has many causes. It can happen quickly or can diminish slowly over time. One or both ears can suffer from hearing loss. Damage can be permanent or temporary. While it is often associated with aging, it can happen to people of any age. Earwax, an ear infection, fluid in the ear, age-related hearing loss, tumors, and some genetic conditions can all be the cause.

Help With Hearing Loss

For help with hearing loss we have several options. For temporary hearing loss, we can remove earwax and that will usually correct the issue. If an ear infection is the cause, decongestants and antibiotics can usually resolve the infection and restore hearing. For fluid in the middle ear, the ear drum can be pierced to allow the fluid to drain and if it is a chronic condition, inserting a tube into the Eustachian tube can help the fluid to continue to drain.

For permanent hearing loss, hearing aids are the answer. Getting the right hearing aid is important. You have to be able to not only hear better but find the hearing aid comfortable. The first step is getting a hearing test to see how much hearing loss you are suffering from. A hearing aid can't restore normal hearing, but it can amplify sounds so that you hear more than you do now.

Types of Hearing Aids

Hearing aids come in different styles and price ranges. Some fit into the canal and are almost invisible and some fit behind the ear. Depending on your amount of hearing loss and budget and comfort level, one style may be better for you.
